Majorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean, especially for British tourists. Its airport actually handles as much as one million passengers every year so you can get an idea of just how popular it is. And this popularity is certainly not without reason, since the island has a number of advantages and attractions.
Majorca has just about everything to attract all sorts of tourists including idyllic beaches, an abundance of interesting historic sites, attractive landscapes, great food and of course wonderful weather. It is no wonder that such a popular place. However, there are very many tourists there in the season so you may find it preferable to go off season to be able to experience the island in a different way.
The most well known resort is Magaluf, one of the biggest party places in the Mediterranean. Originally built in the sixties, it grew into a place with a great reputation for parties. It is now a popular for people from all over Europe, especially partygoers from the United Kingdom. However, there is more to Magaluf than just partying and indeed it has some of the best beaches in the region and plenty of water sports activities and fun for all the family.
Palma Nova, which neighbours Magaluf is quite similar in many ways but tends to be a bit more laid back and not quite as rowdy as Magaluf can get. Palma Nova is also quite popular amongst older people in the winter who want to get away from the bad weather and enjoyed the resort when it is very quiet.
Alcudia is another favourite. Although quieter and much more laid back than the other resorts, Alcudia is more of a family place and for those who prefer tradition and elegance. Situated near a nice old fishing village at the same name, Alcudia also has one of the best beaches in the island located on the sheltered Bay of Alcudia.
