How To Raise A Rottweiler Rescue Dog
There is a lot of satisfaction in taking in an animal that has been abused or abandoned and giving that animal a second chance. You should be commended for your humane gesture and you should also be given all of the advice and tools you need to make sure that your dog and you are given every chance in the world of being happy together for many years to come. Take your time with your new Rottweiler rescue dog and you should have a very happy experience.
As bad as a Rottweiler can get you should know that your Rottweiler rescue dog is not one of those dogs you read about that is trained to be violent and a danger to people. When a Rottweiler is exploited like that for its aggressive nature, and the rescue center determines it cannot be sent to a new home, then the animal is destroyed. It is a tragic side effect to irresponsible Rottweiler owners but it protects people willing to give a dog a second chance.
A Rottweiler rescue dog is not something to be taken lightly so you may want to get advice from your vet right away on how to break your new dog in and train it so it is a good neighborhood dog. Your vet may also be able to get you the number of a reputable Rottweiler breeder that may also be willing and able to give you good advice you can use to help get your new dog used to your home and the neighborhood too. It takes some time so be patient and always be loving and positive.
Housebreaking is a big issue with rescue dogs and sometimes crating an animal can be considered cruel especially an animal that was just in an abusive situation. If you get a dog that is housebroken then that is one less thing you will have to worry about.
When it comes to any breed housebreaking is always extremely important. If your dog is already housebroken then you are very lucky and can move on to other parts of training your dog. If your dog is not housebroken then you can use the crate method as long as you use lots of positive reinforcement and never leave the dog in its crate when you are home.
A slow and steady approach is the right way to deal with your Rottweiler rescue dog. Your dog has been through a lot and Rottweilers are extremely intelligent and they tend to not forget abuse or being abandoned. It is up to you to show your new dog that it is home now and that it is safe from all of the problems it had in the past. Remember that their nature is to be aggressive so be steady with them but always be positive.
It is great to give an abused or abandoned dog a second chance at life and your Rottweiler rescue dog appreciates what you are doing for it. Never punish your Rottweiler as it can sometimes confuse punishment with aggression and may start to respond in kind.
Never punish your Rottweiler. They don’t like being punished and may respond with their own aggressive behavior so always be positive and always use a lot of love when dealing with your dog. Giving a rescued dog a second chance is a wonderful thing and if you give your Rottweiler the chance to settle in to your home then it can be a wonderful pet.
